Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
